After the first panic buying: In search of sandwich bread
 
While in home office, video conferencing with custom background virtually took me back to my office
 
Corona and us – Us after Corona
 
There I stood in front of empty shelves. I just came to buy sandwich bread. But that was sold out at the beginning of the first Covid lockdown in spring 2020, just like pasta or toilet paper was. Corona had an impact on us, and we hardly knew what was happening. The streets of formerly vibrant cities were suddenly empty. People were afraid of meeting each other.
 
At the same time, several opportunities came our way. There was a real surge in digitization. E-medication reduced doctor’s visits, distance learning and working from home became the new normal, where possible, while system relevant everyday heroes kept things going. In the meantime, slowed down everyday life allowed for more intensive family life.
 
Our priest told me on the phone that he had received an Easter message while working through the parish chronicles: “There have been terrible crises throughout our history, but at some point, everything returned to normal. The belief in the resurrection gave people new hope even in difficult times.”
 
In crisis situations, people show who they are. Would we be amazed later about the amount of humanity and humor we had mastered this time with? Certainly, we would breathe a sigh of relief when everything was over. We wouldn’t be afraid to hug anymore...
